VFSC Coaching Team is happy to answer any questions
Skaters will be instructed in a combination of group lessons, private and semi-private lessons, and independent practice. Group lessons, off ice classes are included in your registration fees.
One to One and small group lessons are included in registration for Intro to Figure Skating and Junior Academy.
Private/semiprivate lessons will be billed separately by VFSC coaches for Pre-Competitive and up
Lessons will cover 3 disciplines of skating: Freeskate, Dance, and Skills.
Session Descriptions:
Introduction to Figure Skating: Transitional program for skaters who have completed Stage 3 CanSkate and are coach-invited to this session. Bridges gap between CanSkate and the formal STARSkate program, with a focus on completing CanSkate (4-6 levels) and Star 1 figure skating and technical elements in a structured group environment. Minimum requirement 2x/week with recommended 3x/week with some off-ice training.
Junior Academy: An introductory program for skaters who are interested in pursuing figure skating. Provides coach-led group lessons and team-based coaching, with some off-ice training. Highly recommended 3x/week. Requirement is 2x/week
Pre-Competitive: Skaters who have passed Star 4 skills, or by coach invitation who are ready to train independently. This is a fast-paced session with advanced elements, and skill development. Highly recommended 4x/week, or with coach approval 3x/week.
Competitions
Competition Coaching Fees;
It is customary for a VFSC coach to be onsite at competitions. Parents are not permitted rink side or in the dressing rooms at any competition.
The coaching fee for competitions varies for each coach and for each event within a competition
These fees are in addition to the cost of the registering for the competition.
- Any competition may require meal reimbursement.
- A loss of income fee may be added to the competition coaching fee per skater per day when the competition schedule conflicts with the coaches work schedule.
- Competitions taking place outside Vernon will require travel reimbursement.
- Competitions taking place outside Vernon may require hotel reimbursement.
- All fees are due 30 days after the competition invoice.
